Hello World! My name is Tina and I have had hypothyroidism for 11 years now, and like with all chronic diseases, it's a burden or a blessing that you must live with.
This particular disease has caused me chronic muscle pain, stiffness, fatigue, weight gain, inability to lose weight, brain fog, depression, constipation, hair loss, and my hubby's personal favorite, irritability.
I take a Levothyroxine 125 mcg which is a generic form of Levoxyl 125 mcg. I was put on a higher dosage after I had my son three years ago. This has caused me super irritability, muscle stiffness, forgetfulness and a new one for me, anxiety.
I wanted to create a blog about my diet change, and lifestyle and log the changes that have happen and the reactions that may occur. Today, at 11, I am going to go to the doctor, tell him what I plan on doing which is a fast. I got this idea from a movie called, "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead."
My intentions is to do this fruit/vege fast for the next 5 days, see how I feel then shoot for 10. If I still feel ok, I am going to shoot for the whole 60 days that the guy who produced this movie did. Joe Cross is his name and here is his website: http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/
This is what I currently look like from the side. Pretty sexy, huh? Of course, I was on my period that day. I know, you didn't need to hear that, but the extra bloating comes from that too.
We were in the Northside Fourth of July Parade. Now dig this, I work out, I am both a Nia Instructor and a Zumba Instructor and work out nearly 4 days a week. Mostly dancing. Just was certified Pilates via YogaFit and I am looking forward to teaching that 2 times a week.
I eat primarily vegetarian, (Note: which included alot of pasta | more on this later) So, besides being a mom and chasing my kid around, I am fairly active. Yet, I do not lose weight. But, now I am trying something different. I am trying this fast to kick off my gluten free lifestyle. Today is my first day.
For breakfast, I had a green juice with 1/2 of a cucumber, handful of spinach and a bunch of green grapes. It's not too bad.
For lunch, I ate 1 teaspoon of hempnuts, and then juiced 1/2 of a cucumber, handful of spinach, handful of blueberries, bunch of florets of broccoli and a bunch of green grapes.
Dinner, I'll probably do the same.
So, I went to the doctor's today, told him what I am doing and he pushed the protein. I said I was eating hempnuts and he was fine with that. I'm not entirely sure how much protein I am supposed to have but I figure a few teaspoons should suffice.
Right now, I feel a little light-headed, but not starving like most people would say.
So, my weight today is 174.2 lbs and my waist is as 40 in. This is two fingers down from my belly button. I will weigh myself again this Friday. Check my waist every day. Not going to stress myself about weight because I know, I have hypothyroidism; I may not lose weight at all. Now I did find out that I am borderline diabetic. So, I need to make some changes quick.
So, we will see as this is a total experiment. Wish me luck!

Isn't a waist measurement usually taken ABOVE the belly button? I've always thought so. Funny on Wiki it states in several places that it is the smallest part yet the picture shows it as you did it. I've not seen that before as a waist measurement. One way I was taught is to bend to the side and measure where it bends.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to hearing about your journey. You are always so creative with food I am excited to hear the things you come up with!!!
Thanks - I'm walking along with you. I too have hypothyroidism and maybe LUPUS and also teach my own Pulse class and go through cycles of joint pain and fatigue. On a good day I don't get fatigued till 3 PM. I am eating only green salads with some blueberries and nuts added with plain olive oil & vinegar. Kale/Swiss Chard with Salmon, and a protein drink with the greens supplement added. I have now found out that in addition to gluten sensitivity I am probably also Letichin sensitive - so no more rice, potatoes, pasta of any kind - that stuff and processed foods is what causes auto-immune in the first place. The protein drink is a rice powder - not sure what I'll do about that - just paid $47 for it!!Blessings ~ Emmy Wild Woman
ReplyDeleteOk, I just watched the video . . . I hadn't before because I was on a device that doesn't do good with vids. But why juice? Why not EAT the veggies? I mean won't you miss CHEWING? I think chewing and texture is all part of a meal. I might be able to do it for 5 days, but I wouldn't want to do it for longer. Especially now with all of the yummy summer fruit around. Cheers to you, you are strong woman!
ReplyDelete@Terre, I just did it the way they did it at Victory Lady. Actually, now that I recall they did do the bend on the side. So, who knows.
ReplyDelete@Wild Woman, I hear you sister. I get the same way too, fatigued and want to sleep. I notice as long as I take b complex it helps. But, the minute I eat potatoes, rice and noodles, I could pass out. Just like how someone feels after eating turkey. So, I got to stick with the greens and a protein and no process dressings because alot of them have gluten in them as a thickener. I'm learning alot, actually that show above has taught me alot. So, it's interesting the things we must go through. I'm wondering if we didn't eat process food, would I be like this today.
Thanks ladies for commenting. So far, I feel fine, just a little hungry.
@Terre, yeah, I think he went to the extreme. I know, the yummy fruits are out. But, I can turn them into juice too. Or smoothies.
ReplyDeleteYou go! I see you already lost .5 inch. Awesome. Getting beyond the number in pounds is difficult. I yhink the measurements are better to go by. As you know you could weigh the same but be lean or fatty.
